  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar/honey
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 3 to 3.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for finishing
  • finishing sea salt

  • Add yeast to your warm water and let bloom while assembling your ingredients
  • Add the rest of the ingredients, minus the finishing butter and salt, to the bowl of a stand mixer, hold back some of the flour and add as needed
  • Add the water and yeast mixture
  • Using a dough hook, combine until smooth and clears and bottom of the bowl
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover and let rise until about doubled, about 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Remove dough from dough and roll out on lightly floured counter into a rectangle about 1/3 inch thick
  • Using a knife or dough scraper, cut into equal sized pieces
  • Fold each roll over onto itself and pinch down in the middle of the side opposite the fold.
  • Cover the rolls and let rise until doubled again, 30-60 minutes
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
  • Cook the rolls for about 15-20 minutes, or until nice and dark golden brown
  • Remove from oven, brush with melted butter and sprinkle flaky sea salt over each one
