Parker House Rolls

  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar/honey
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 3 to 3.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for finishing
  • finishing sea salt


  1. Add yeast to your warm water and let bloom while assembling your ingredients
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients, minus the finishing butter and salt, to the bowl of a stand mixer, hold back some of the flour and add as needed
  3. Add the water and yeast mixture
  4. Using a dough hook, combine until smooth and clears and bottom of the bowl
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover and let rise until about doubled, about 1.5 to 2 hours
  6. Remove dough from dough and roll out on lightly floured counter into a rectangle about 1/3 inch thick
  7. Using a knife or dough scraper, cut into equal sized pieces
  8. Fold each roll over onto itself and pinch down in the middle of the side opposite the fold.
  9. Cover the rolls and let rise until doubled again, 30-60 minutes
  10. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
  11. Cook the rolls for about 15-20 minutes, or until nice and dark golden brown
  12. Remove from oven, brush with melted butter and sprinkle flaky sea salt over each one
